CCS: A painful start for a promising technology

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is critical to achieve the reduction in CO2 emissions necessary to manage global warming and keep energy affordable. However uptake of CCS in the EU has been disappointing – despite political support – and not a single CCS facility in Europe is yet operational. Recent developments in the UK, where four CCS projects are moving ahead with strong government support, are breathing new hope into the European CCS sector.
