Breakfast Event: Health promotion and disease prevention: finding the right ingredients

Prevention is a key element to ensure a high level of mental and physical well-being, and to reduce both communicable and non-communicable diseases. However, as highlighted by the Companion Report 2017 published by the European Commission in the State of Health in the EU initiative, only around 3% of health budgets are currently spent on prevention measures in the European Union. At the same time, the Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle showed the importance of strengthening coordination across different policy areas – such as physical activity, nutrition and education – in order to promote health and prevent diseases.

Are the European Union and its Member States doing enough when it comes to health promotion and disease prevention? What are best practices to promote physical activity and sports while reducing sedentary behaviours? Which actions are needed to make sure citizens adopt a healthy and balanced diet? How can digital technology help empower citizens and consumers to live healthier and active lives? Join our FTI Consulting policy debate to discuss the challenges that need to be addressed in order to implement a coherent and effective prevention policy in Europe, and to understand the contributions that stakeholders from different sectors can bring to this cause.
